Kelly Dennen, Library Aide
The Otsego Elementary School Library offers a large variety of reading materials for our students to enjoy. We have hardback and paperback easy reader books, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, magazines, and many reference materials.
Each class comes into the library on their specific “color” day, which is on a four day rotation cycle. The class time is 30 minutes long, and consists of materials check out, library skills review, or story time.
Kindergarten students may check out one book per class time.
First Graders may check out one book until January, and then they may check out two books.
Second Graders may check out two books.
Third Graders may check out two books, or one book and one magazine.
Fourth and Fifth Graders may check out two books and one magazine.
The student’s books are due back on their next scheduled library day. They are eligible to check out new materials provided their previously checked out materials have been returned. If additional time is needed to finish their books, renewals are permitted.
Otsego Elementary participates in the Accelerated Reader Program. The students are encouraged to select books that fall within their AR range. The spines of the books are clearly marked with a blue label that displays the AR number of the book. After reading the book, the student may take a test on a computer in either their classroom, or the library, time permitting. By passing the test, the student’s reading level, and AR level increase.
Parent and adult volunteers are always welcome to help in the library. They may assist students in locating reading materials, help with returning or signing out of books, shelve books, or perform additional duties as needed. If you would like more information on volunteering in the library, please feel free to contact me. We would love to have you “Check Us Out.”
