At Elementary School, we are committed to providing a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where every child can grow academically and personally.
Our key services and initiatives include:
Science of Reading Curriculum - We recently adopted Open Court which aligns with the Science of Reading Evidence-Based practices and is an approved curriculum through the state of Ohio. It is a comprehensive K–5 program that uses systematic, explicit instruction in phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and language arts so students build strong foundational literacy skills. It supports all learners with consistent, research-based routines and scaffolding to help every student become a confident, independent reader
Bridges Math Curriculum - Builds deep conceptual understanding through visual models, hands-on exploration, and student discussion. It balances conceptual learning with procedural fluency and provides strong daily routines like Number Corner to steadily grow number sense. Designed for diverse learners, it helps all students develop confidence and a positive identity as mathematical thinkers.
Counseling & Support Services - Supporting the whole child by promoting social-emotional growth, positive relationships, effective use of coping skills, and responsible decision-making. Services include classroom lessons on social-emotional skills, small groups focused on specific topics, individual sessions as needed, career exploration lessons through PENTA, and leadership or mentoring opportunities such as the Be the Change Club. These programs help students build self-awareness, resilience, and a sense of community within the school.
Academic & Behavior Support Services - Our MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) framework ensures that every student receives the support they need to succeed academically and socially. Services include in-class interventions, support from a Behavior Specialist, Title reading, and specialized instruction with a Dyslexia and Multi-Sensory Literacy Specialist. By providing targeted support at multiple levels, MTSS helps students build skills, address learning gaps, and achieve their full potential.
Student of the Month Character Traits - Our Student of the Month program celebrates and reinforces positive character traits in every classroom. Each month, students participate in a lesson focused on a specific trait—such as Respect, Responsibility, Empathy, Flexibility, Citizenship, Enthusiasm, Communication, Sacrifice, Drive, or Problem-Solving—and one student from each class who exemplifies that trait is honored at lunch, receiving a certificate and keychain. This program encourages students to model strong character, recognize the value of positive behavior, and celebrate the contributions of their peers.
Field Trips and Guest Speakers - Our students enjoy a variety of field trips and guest speakers that enrich learning beyond the classroom. Each grade level (K–5) participates in at least one field trip, while preschool and other grades also host engaging guest speakers. Past visitors have included local firefighters for fire safety, conservationists, historians, our county weatherman, experts from county parks, COSI educators, and presenters on topics like hand hygiene, giving students hands-on, real-world experiences that connect to their learning.
